Thank you so much ladies, you are all so full of wisdom from your experiences. I figured at least one shake a day would become my normal for ever after. LOL. Now I'm going through a military hospital so as I will see my surgeon for followups and stuff, I won't have constant contact with a nut. That's all fine and dandy with me. I have you guys here on the LW that are always so insight full. At my seminar there were a lot of people there that hadn't even researched WLS and were so shocked when the NUT showed a tub of protein powder and said this will be your friend for life. I was so surprised how many people start this journey so unprepared. I already have lots of samples, although I still think I need more of protein shakes. Thanks again for always telling us how it is, and needs to be healthy for her and ever after.

I will be the one to tell you that I am 3 years out and just went through a bad phase of not being able to tolerate my protein drinks during pregnancy. I thought I could eat enough protein. My labs are horrible, my hair is brittle and I now have 35 lbs that haven't budged in 6 months. I'm back on protein drinks and the weight is starting to drop.
Protein drinks are your friend!

Hump!  My surgeons insisted protein was to come from food.  They said like 65 was enough for a woman my height / age or whatever criteria they used.  I did pretty good my first RNY got probably 80% of my extra weight off.  This time (revised because of stomach reattaching and herniated)...I am creeping in weight loss.  Perhaps, trying protein drinks....I use to projectile vomit them when I had my RNY the first time.  It was the smell- I could literally smell them in the next room.  So---samples- gotta get on it.  I do a chai---sugar free and decaf, when I add it to my low carb milk I get 14-15 proteins---does that come close to what most people get in a shake or are they more like 30 grams?  Thanks for the insight!

one scoop  of banana isopure  has 25  grams protein and  105  calories -  this morning I had  three  tall  glasses  of  chai latte with three scoops  of protein  shake -  so  315 calories and 75 grams protein ...  I also  ATE   some turkey  so altogether  I would say I had  115 - 125grams or so ...

thats  my MORNING meal !!

that amount of protein staves off hunger until midafternoon  usually  .... at which point Ill  have an early dinner  or

a snack ( often a protein coffee or two )  and a later dinner ...

by the way ,  I used to  think  too much protein  a la a bodybuilders diet  was risky for the kidneys...this  amount is VERY  new for me and strictly a modification I  made  post RNY after  MY  hair and nails got brittle too ....  (  now theyre not )  .  I think we  malabsorb  protein ...  at least I do .  I havent noticed any adverse  effects at all from this  amount of supplementation .

What Ava said..and... a scoop of most protein powders range between 20-30g of protein.  Add that to milk and you can get even more.

Just be sure you're getting right kind of protein.

Buy a Protein cup at GNC with a silver ball in it.  It's wierd but as soon as I take the lid off my cup smells gross but with the lid on I don't smell anything.

Most of my Proteins are around 23 with 1 scoop.  Once a day I use 1.5 but the rest of the day I use 1 scoop.

My surgeon loves the protein shakes! I think he drinks them himself. LOL

I feel lucky about that.

I do get "protein shake fatigue" at times but I just cut back for a while and then add them back in when the memory of whatever was bugging me goes away.

I too get protein fatigue sometimes, and may miss a few protein coffees, but usually its when I get out of my routine or traveling.
